What happens if I purchase or attempt to purchase alcohol if I am under the legal drinking age?

  • Purchasing an alcoholic beverage by a person under 21 years of age O.C.G.A. §§3-3-23(a)(2)(b) and 40-5-57.1

    First Adjudication

    Plea of nolo contendere –– Not accepted; shall be treated as a conviction.

    Suspension –– Yes; 6 month period beginning on effective date.

    Limited Driving Permit –– No.

     

     

    Second or Subsequent Adjudication(s)

    Plea of nolo contendere –– Not accepted; shall be treated as a conviction.

    Suspension –– Yes; 12 month period beginning on effective date.

    Limited Driving Permit –– No.

     

     

    Attempting to purchase an alcoholic beverage by a person under 21 years of age O.C.G.A. §§3-3-23.1(b)(3) 40-5-63(f)

    First Adjudication

    Plea of nolo contendere –– Yes. If court accepts a plea of nolo contendere, do not report to DDS.

    Suspension upon conviction –– Yes; 6 month period beginning on effective date.

    Limited Driving Permit –– No.

     

    Second or Subsequent Adjudication(s)

    Plea of nolo contendere –– Not accepted; shall be treated as a conviction.

    Suspension –– Yes; 12 month period beginning on effective date.

    Limited Driving Permit –– No.
